British Values

At Wallop Primary, we are committed to nurturing our pupils as thoughtful, responsible, and confident citizens. Central to this is our teaching of British Values, which are embedded across school life and closely linked to our school values of Determination, Responsibility, Integrity, Valuing Others, and Excellence, guided by our vision that every learning minute matters.

What Are British Values?

British Values are the fundamental principles that help pupils understand and engage positively with life in modern Britain. They include:

Democracy

Pupils learn the importance of having a voice and participating in decision-making.

Through assemblies, discussions, and the election of our School Council and Eco Council.

Rule of Law

Pupils understand why rules exist and how they keep everyone safe and ensure fairness.

Through classroom agreements, whole-school expectations, and real-life examples in assemblies.

Individual Liberty

Pupils develop awareness of personal freedoms and learn to make responsible choices.

Through PSHE lessons, class discussions, and encouraging pupils to take ownership of their learning.

Mutual Respect & Tolerance

Pupils value diversity and understand different faiths, cultures, and beliefs.

Through curriculum topics, assemblies, community projects, and celebrating cultural events.

Democracy in Action

A key part of democracy at Wallop is how pupils participate in elections for our School Council and Eco Council. Pupils nominate themselves, campaign, and vote, learning how to make fair decisions and positively influence our school community through democratic elections.

Every Learning Minute Matters

We believe that every learning opportunity is also a chance to develop character and citizenship. British Values are embedded in:

  • Assemblies – exploring values, current events, and moral questions.

  • The Wider Curriculum – integrating democracy, liberty, respect, and tolerance across all subjects.

  • School Life – including councils, projects, and everyday interactions that reflect our values and the work we do within our school and wider community.

By combining British Values with our school values, the children at Wallop Primary can become confident, responsible, and engaged members of society.
